How to make your very own Storysack in 3 easy steps!
1. Choose a book....
The first thing you need to do is choose a story, what story book you pick will
depend on the child (or children) you are making it for.If the story sack is for
a specific child, you might want to take into account any special interests of
favorite characters that child likes. For example, you might not want to pick
out a story about fish if the child loves rabbits! The more interested the
child is about the subject of the story, the more likely they will be to read
and truly enjoy the book. You should also pick a book appropriate for the
child's age and abilities.
You can visit your local library to see what is available, or do some research on the web to see what books are popular right now! Blackburn Library has a huge selection and the latest childrens books, if you can not find what your looking for they will order it for you from another library for a small fee. Once you have decided on a story you need to make a bag....

2. Choose a bag...
You don't need a fancy bag to make a story sack! Even a simple paper bag will do. Just decorate the outside of the bag, fill it with the book and other goodies and viola! I have gotten some feedback about how well a laminated folder or large envelope also works. If you want to get a bit fancier, go to your local craft store and by and inexpensive canvas sack. These can be decorated using fabric paints and other craft products.
If you are real ambitious, you can make your own custom-made sacks.
What the bag looks like doesn't matter too much, although you do want it to look inviting to the child. It is what's inside the bag that counts!
The next step is to fill your bag up...

With some stories, the possibilities are endless for related crafts, games, etc. With others, you will have to get a bit more creative. Here are some ideas to help you decide what to put in the sack with the story book:
* Supplies to make related puppets, games, props, costumes, etc.
* A CD or tape of the story being told
* Related colouring books or colouring pages
* A fact book to learn more about situations or items in the story
* A purchased game or toy that is related to the story
* Pictures of related place or events
* Plain paper and crayons to draw a picture
* Artifacts related to the story
* Written suggestions and items to help act out the story

A card game, where the cards are facing downwards so you can not see the picture and the children have to take turns matching up the same pictures. When all the cards have been used up the person with the most pairs wins.
For this game I printed out the pictures of the bears from the internet and coloured them and laminated them. I also created a simple pouch that all the cards can be put into
